Restoring Grampa's Guitar

Let's Clean Up!

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Now that I'm in here, I might as well do some clean up. There is a lot of old yellow carpenters glue spread around and the plate under the bridge has some funny cloth on it. Out with the chisel again.

The scraper works well to flatten and clean up after the chisel. I think I'll reduce the size of this HUGE plate to open up the sound of the guitar.

Careful now! Don't poke that chisel through the top!

This looks and feels much better, and I'd be willing to bet it sounds better too.

See what I mean about the excess glue. I'll start chipping away at this next.
